Why do I need an extractor?
An extractor (sometimes called a cooker hood) is a must for any kitchen. As well as removing steam, smoke and airborne grease (that will otherwise leave a nasty, sticky film on surfaces), a good extractor will get rid of lingering aromas – however strong. That curry you cooked yesterday may well have been delicious – but do you really want to be reminded of it a day later ?
CDA offers extractors at all price and performance levels. Level 1 products are functional and efficient; level 2 products have added features such as a higher extraction rate and designer styling while level 3 models such as the 3Z9 offer the ultimate in performance, style and functions.
When you are shopping for an extractor you’ll see the extraction rate mentioned, usually followed by figures like 750m3/hr. What does it mean – and how do you choose the right extractor to suit the size of your kitchen.
To keep the kitchen clean and fresh when food is being cooked the air must be changed ten times an hour. To find the size of extractor you will need, first work out the volume of the room in cubic metres then multiply the result by ten. To work out the volume of the room multiply height, by length by width (in metres). The end result will be the volume of the room in cubic metres – so if the room measures 40m3 you will need an extractor rated at 400m3/h or above – simple ! The 3Z9 from CDA operates at 750m3/hr.
Quite Please!
Quiet operation is a must especially in a kitchen diner or kitchen living room. Operating noise is expressed in dBA – here’s a quick guide to help you.

Ducted Or Recirculating?
Extractors can be installed with ducting that vents the old air out to a grille on the outside wall. Recirculating extractors pass the air through filters to clean it then blow it back into the room. If you choose a ducted model, there will be extra costs for the ducting itself and installation - but the outlay is well worthwhile as performance and air cleaning are both more effective than in recirculating models.
