CDA Buying Advice – Cooker Hood Features Explained
Extra features in the CDA cooker hood range have been included to give you complete control and flexibility over the air quality in your home. A ‘clean air’ function will turn on the extractor for ten minutes every hour to filter and clear the air in your kitchen. Whilst a timer is included on most models to allow the extractor to run for an allotted period of time after cooking, leaving you to enjoy your meal without needing to get up and switch it off.
Peripheral aspiration is a term you will see as a feature of some CDA extractors. Put simply, this means that the extractor pulls air from the room using the entire cooker hood edge surface, making it both efficient and extremely effective.
So, your extractor removes steam and grease from the kitchen while you are cooking. That much we know. But are you aware of all the other features on CDA extractor models?
Touch control or soft touch buttons
We know that some people prefer touch control over buttons, and vice versa, that’s why we have developed a range of extractors that offer you a choice of control. With touch control such as those on downdraft extractors, you have sensitive and responsive adjustments at your fingertips and a smooth, uninterrupted finish to your extractor design. If you choose the soft touch button control such as those on many of our chimney extractors, you can quickly switch between extraction settings, turn the lighting on and off and enjoy the ergonomically designed feel of each control.
When you are frying something pungent or accidentally burn food, a quick 10 minute boost of extraction can be useful to remove smoke, smells and steam from the kitchen and get things back under control. This function will run for 10 minutes before returning to the previous selected extraction speed and will give your extractor that boost of energy which it needs to restore the clean air in your kitchen. This function can be found on selected models including the CDA EVP61, EVP91, EVP101 and EVP121.
Clean air function
This clever little function can remove smells, allergens and pollution from your living space, keeping you and your family breathing a little easier. Once selected, the extractor fan will turn on automatically every hour for 10 minutes when you aren’t using it and clear the room of unwanted air particles before switching off again. Not only is an extractor a great companion for your hob, but it can really benefit your health too.
Automatic cut-off timer
Just because you have finished cooking, doesn’t mean that all the cooking residue, steam and smells have magically vanished from your kitchen the moment you switch off the hob. Leaving your extractor on for up to 30 minutes after cooking, will finish the job while you plate up and settle down for a romantic meal or some precious family time over dinner.
The last thing you need, when you are halfway through enjoying dinner, is to interrupt your meal by having to get up to switch off the extractor. That’s why we have installed a clever timer on selected touch control models to allow you to pre-set an allotted extraction time before it automatically switches off.
Filter saturation warning light
How do you know when your extractor filter need changing? To most of us it’s a mystery. If you have chosen recirculating extraction and have installed charcoal filters to purify the air that goes through your extractor, we recommend that you change the filters every 6 months; this is calculated on an average household’s usage. Some of our smartest models also include a filter saturation warning light that will indicate if you need a filter change, so you just need to swap the new ones in when the time comes.
This simply means that instead of the extractor pulling the air through just one or two vents above your cooking space, it uses the entire edge surface of the extractor to absorb grease, steam, smoke and smells, maximising efficiency.
If you have installed a ceiling extractor, reaching the controls might not be as easy as you think. That’s why we’ve included a handy remote control that allows you to access the extractor’s settings from the kitchen table, cooking area or just while you are walking around the kitchen.
Our range of CDA extractors offer between 3 and 8 extraction speeds. The majority of extractors have 3 different speeds, but the EVX101 ceiling extractor has an impressive 8 speeds including the intensive function, to allow for flexibility when cooking. As explained previously, the intensive function gives your extractor an extra boost for 10 minutes before returning to the previously selected extraction speed.
All CDA extractor hoods come equipped with grease filters that help to absorb the microscopic grease particles that will flow through your extractor during the extraction process. Most models have aluminium filters but some models have stainless steel, and the CCA5 integrated extractor has an acrylic filter. All filters are removable so that they can be washed to prevent a build-up of grease. The best way to clean these filters is to soak them in a solution of soda crystals and warm water which will quickly and effortlessly remove the dirt, leaving your extractor clean to carry on with the hard work.
If you don’t want to hand wash your grease filters, they are also dishwasher friendly. Just ensure that the filter is patted dry before you insert it back into the extractor.
LED edge lighting
Our EKP range introduces an extra lighting option for your home with LED edge lighting that can be switched on in a range of colours to create an ambience in your home. These extractors are available with 3 lighting colours; red, blue and green and are available in either flat or curved glass making a strong statement in your kitchen. The models that feature the ambient lighting include the EKP60 60cm curved glass chimney hood which is also available in 70cm and 90cm variations, the EKPK90 island extractor and the EKN60 60cm flat glass chimney hood, which is also available in 70cm and 90cm too.
